The Grassroots Resilience Institute (GRI) was established in 2022 as an initiative of Jan Sahas with a simple but powerful belief: when grassroots organizations are strong, communities can drive lasting and dignified change.
Our Vision
To build a resilient and interconnected civil society ecosystem where CSOs lead sustainable and transformative change.
Our Mission
To strengthen the strategic and operational capacity of CSOs, GRI adopts a systems change approach that connects them across sectors to collectively address complex social challenges
What we do
At GRI, our work with grassroots Civil Society Organizations is rooted in strengthening organizations from within while enabling them to grow through collaboration and shared learning.
Foundational Capacity Building
We help grassroots organizations build strong internal foundations that enable them to operate effectively, grow with confidence, and sustain their impact over time. Our support focuses on strengthening governance, financial management, compliance, program alignment, and organizational culture, while nurturing leadership and staff well-being, equipping teams to achieve meaningful and measurable results.
Eco-system Strengthening
We believe that strong ecosystems make individual organizations stronger. Our work creates opportunities for connection, shared learning, and collective growth among grassroots CSOs. We help organizations build meaningful relationships with peers, mentors, donors, and allies to foster trust, coordination, and collective action. Through tailored, hands-on support—combining one-on-one guidance, cohort-based learning, and practical tools—we address each organization’s specific needs. By using data, reflection, and evaluation, we help teams continuously learn, adapt, and strengthen their impact over time.
Our Model of Support

Cohort-based
We work with select grassroots CSOs through cohort-based partnerships that provide 1.5 to 2 years of intensive, hands-on support, followed by continued engagement in the third year. This model offers ongoing handholding and tailored guidance across all seven core service areas, strengthening organizational systems, leadership, and decision-making for long-term sustainability.

Digital Learning & Resource Hub
Our LMS extends capacity-building support beyond direct engagement, offering self-paced learning, live and recorded sessions, practical tools and resources, and helpline access for real-time guidance. Available in multiple regional and local languages, it enables organizations to learn, seek support, and strengthen capacities at their own pace while staying connected to GRI.

“The sessions helped us understand the importance of strong organizational policies. Earlier, our policies were prepared when donors requested them, but through this learning we reviewed and strengthened them. The facilitator’s clear explanations made the sessions practical, and the online access will be a useful resource whenever needed.”
